Drug Abuse Resistance and Education Program
The D.A.R.E. Program has been in the Milton School District since October of 1993. Officer Dave Muffley, now retired, was Milton Police Department's first D.A.R.E. Officer. From its inception in 1993 until Officer Dave's retirement in 2000, he watched between 1500 to 1600 students graduate the program. After Officer Muffley retired, Retired Chief of Police Paul Yost took over as the school district's only D.A.R.E. Officer. Chief Yost taught this program to students from three different schools within the school district. School Resource Officer Dan Embeck and Corporal Curt Zettlemoyer teach the D.A.R.E. program to our communities youth.

School Resource Officer Program
The School Resource Officer Program was made possible through a federal Cops in School grant. The first School Resource Officer was placed in the Milton Junior/Senior High School in January of 2000. The main goal of the program was to establish a resource and a liason between the students, the school administration and the Milton Police Department. The School Resource Officer(S.R.O.) is a sworn full-time police officer. But he is not looked at as a security guard for the school district. The S.R.O. educates students in a variety of topics ranging from drug awareness to vehicle laws in driver's education classes. The S.R.O. offers a place for students to seek advice from a police officer. The S.R.O. helps to build relationship between students and police that most communities will never have. Since 2001 Corporal Curt Zettlemoyer has been the School Resource Officer. Starting in the fall of 2006 Corporal Zettlemoyer will turn over the reins to Officer Dan Embeck.

Susquehanna Valley Special Emergency Response Team (S.E.R.T.)
UNA STAMUS!"
WE STAND AS ONE!
The Susquehanna Valley Special Emergency Response Team(S.E.R.T.) was formed to provide a highly trained and skilled tactical team as a resource for the Milton Police Department and other local police agencies for handling critical incidents. This team, comprised of full-time police officers, responds to such critical incidents such as active shooters, drug warrant/high risk warrant services, barricaded/hostage situations and other special assignments where there is a need for highly skilled police action.
The "team" is comprised of the following: Team Leader, Assistant Team Leader, Point/Entry Man, Breacher, Sniper/Observer, Tactical E.M.S., as well as other tactical operators. Every team member, otherwise known as operators, is trained and cross-trained for a majority if not every position within the element.
Team Leader- The operator in charge of the mission at hand is the Team Leader. This operator is the one with tactical command of the mission. The Team Leader is responsible for every other operator in the element for the mission. He/She is responsible for the development and execution of any tactical deployment.
Assistant Team Leader- This operator is next in charge of the mission at hand. This operator is responsible for helping the Team Leader accomplish the mission.
Point/Entry Man- This operator is the normally the first man in the "stack". He is responsible for challenging any threat that is in front of the team when executing a mission.
Breacher- This operator is responsible for gaining access to structures so the team can enter quickly and resolve the threat. The Breacher does this by a variety of means.
Sniper/Observer- This operator is responsible for stopping the threat when there is no other option available to the Team Leader.
Tactical E.M.S.- This operator is the medic of the team. He is responsible for handling any medical emergencies that may occur during the mission.
In order to become a member of the S.E.R.T. Team, each officer must pass multiple interviews as well as a rigorous physical agility test.
